Vytorin generic options and patent information | LowestMed

With the patent for Vytorin officially expired (April 25, 2017), we thought we’d dive a little into what Vytorin is and ways to save money on your prescription for it.

What is Vytorin

Vytorin is a combination drug (Zocor and Zetia) that is used to reduce the amount of cholesterol absorbed by the body. Vytorin belongs to a group of drugs called “statins.” The drug is generally paired with a low-fat diet and other treatments, to lower total cholesterol levels.

Is there a generic Vytorin option?

There are currently no Vytorin generic alternative, as a combination drug. Since Vytorin is a combination of Zocor and Zetia, both of which have generics, you may be able to save some money if you fill their generics separately.

You can ask your doctor about writing a prescription for Ezetimibe (Zetia) and Simvastatin (Zocor) separately. If they are ok with doing that, you may be able to save a significant amount of money on your prescription.

How much does Vytorin cost?

Costs for Vytorin vary, depending on dosages and which pharmacy or discount/insurance card is used. It’s important to always compare prescription prices with search tools like LowestMed. The lowest price found for 30 tablets of 10MG/20MG of Vytorin, through LowestMed, is $314.69 at Rite Aid. Compare that to the cash price of $414. That’s a savings of $100, just by simply searching LowestMed’s discounted prices.

If your physician can write a prescription for Ezetimibe and Simvastatin seperately, you could pay about $172.26 for 30 tablets of 10MG Ezetimibe and $6.36 for 30 tablets of 20MG Simvastatin, totaling $178.62.

So, since there’s no official generic for Vytorin, you could save $136.07 by visiting a Kroger store and shopping for Ezetimibe and Simvastatin separately, instead of purchasing Vytorin, the combination drug.

Where to purchase Vytorin?

You can purchase Vytorin at any major or independent pharmacy in the United States, with a prescription from you doctor. Since prices vary though, we suggest using search tools, like LowestMed, to find the lowest cost for you Vytorin prescription.
