What is a health insurance deductible?

A health insurance deductible is the amount of money you have to pay before your health care provider starts assisting you in payments. Especially now, many health insurance deductibles are high deductibles. For example, if your deductible is $3,000, you would have to pay $3,000 before your insurance would kick in.

Once you’ve met your deductible, your health insurance will often pay a copayment or coinsurance for services that are covered by your plan. After you’ve payed the copayment or coinsurance, you health insurance will pay the rest of your claim.

How to meet deductible on health insurance

Unfortunately, there is no real easy way to meet your deductible on health insurance. You are required to pay the amount your plan is set at. Though this is a requirement, if you are on a high deductible plan, you qualify for a Health Savings Account (HSA). HSA’s allow you to save money in a specified account that is untaxed.
