Frequently Asked Questions - LowestMed

Frequently Asked Questions

How does LowestMed work?

You can use LowestMed to compare prescription prices and get discounts at local pharmacies. Simply search on the website or smart phone app to find the lowest price near you. Enter the name of the drug and your zip code. The most common form, strength and quantity of that prescription drug will show by default. If your prescription differs, be sure to adjust the drug details. Then print or show the card (next to the price) to the associated pharmacy to receive your prescription at that price.

Is my personal information secure?

Yes. We do not require registration to use our website or apps. We do not collect, track or sell your medication search or purchase information. It is completely confidential.

Is this an insurance program?

LowestMed is not insurance, but is a discount program for prescription drugs. Based on customer feedback, LowestMed’s prices may be lower than insurance – read those testimonials here. We recommend always comparing your insurance price against the prices displayed on LowestMed.

If I have insurance, how can I use LowestMed?

Your health insurance’s prices may be different from those shown on our comparison tool. LowestMed recommends always comparing your health insurance price against what is displayed by LowestMed, especially if you have a high deductible plan or if your drug is not on your insurance drug formulary list. Simply ask the pharmacist to check the price using your insurance and the LowestMed discount codes to see which one is best for your purchase.

Can I get discounts for brand and generic drugs?

Yes. Many name brand drugs have generic alternatives. When a generic is available, LowestMed first displays the prices for the generic drug. To change between generic and brand name prices, simply click the tab on the price results page. Many generic drugs can be purchased for $4 or $10 at Walmart with cash discount pricing. Special pharmacy price lists, like Costco’s, are also included to help you find the lowest possible price.

Which pharmacies honor the LowestMed card?

LowestMed is honored at over 60,000 pharmacies including: CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, Costco, Walmart, Target, Kmart, and Shopko. Also included are most regional grocery store chains like: Kroger, Safeway, Fred Meyer, Giant, HEB, Wegmans, Meijers, and many more. Most independent pharmacies are also included. You do not need to enroll in their savings clubs or use their in-house discount programs. Our card or app is all you need to get a low price. The pharmacy must enter the codes from your LowestMed app or discount card to get your discount.

Is LowestMed free?

There is no subscription or registration to use LowestMed. LowestMed displays Rx prices at participating pharmacies. The price you see is the price you pay. Any fees collected by LowestMed are built into the price displayed by the app or website.

Do I need to register or sign up for LowestMed?

No. LowestMed does not require any type of registration to use our website, apps or discount cards. We do not collect, track or sell your medication search or purchase information.

How do I get a LowestMed card?

Prescription prices fluctuate on occasion. We are constantly looking for the lowest price and will do our best to provide you with the lowest price in your area.

I have Medicare Part D. Can I still use LowestMed?

Yes. However, your purchase will not apply toward your Medicare deductible. You should consider if this is important to your individual situation.

I am paying over $100/month for prescription drugs. Is there anything else that can help me?

Yes. Our Rx Advocacy program helps people get high cost prescriptions at low or no costs. Please see the Rx Advocacy page for additional information.

Do I need to bring the LowestMed card to the pharmacy every single time?

Yes. The pharmacy may keep the card on file, but the discount codes change from time to time so it is always best to provide current discount codes to the pharmacy at each visit.

Is the price on the LowestMed website the discounted price I’d pay at the pharmacy?

Yes. The prices shown can only be given if the pharmacy enters the discount codes into their system. Retail prices or insurance prices are not shown. These are negotiated prices for consumers using the LowestMed discount codes.

Is LowestMed a pharmacy?

LowestMed is not a pharmacy and we do not actually fill prescriptions. We do however help you find the lowest price for a prescription at a pharmacy near you.

Is this a scam?

No. LowestMed has been in business since 2010 and provides useful information and drug discount opportunities for millions of Americans.

My card doesn’t work at a certain pharmacy. What can I do?

Although we have contracted with each pharmacy showing in the LowestMed tool, they do have the final say on accepting cards. Our goal is to make sure pharmacies are paid timely and appropriately while getting you the best deal. If they don’t match the prices shown you can choose to purchase at their price or try another pharmacy.

Do I need a sponsor code for the lowest prices?

No. However, if you were given one, please enter it when you first use the website or app. You will only need to enter it one time. The sponsor code helps us support your sponsoring organization but still keeps your personal usage completely confidential.

Why do I need the LowestMed Discount card?

The LowestMed Pharmacy Discount Card can save you money every time you pick up a prescription. You can print a card from your computer or show it from your smartphone if you have downloaded the LowestMed app. Showing the card to the pharmacy will get you immediate savings. Even if you have another insurance card, you may be able to get a better price using LowestMed, so always show it when purchasing a prescription.

What if my drug or dosage are not found?

LowestMed shows prices for all FDA approved prescription drugs. If your drug is not found, check the spelling or expand the radius search for a pharmacy near you. You can still request a card and take it to a pharmacy in your area to receive a discounted price.

What if the pharmacy doesn’t provide the price listed?

First, check to make sure the quantity and dose are correct. The search tool defaults to the most common quantities and doses for a given medication. However, if the quantity and dose are correct there may be a slight difference due to price changes. Our prices are updated frequently and may be slightly different at the time of purchase. Using the discount codes will still result in a discount.

Can I use the LowestMed discount card and have it count toward my deductible?

Yes. Simply keep track of your cash payments and submit receipts to your insurer to get credit toward your deductible.

What is the source for savings claims made by LowestMed?

Savings claims on our website are from actual user statements. LowestMed’s cost savings data are based on multiple sources, including published price lists, purchases, claims records, and data provided by pharmacies.
